4 Things You Should Know About Tattoo Removal

Every year, thousands of people get tattoos. At the same time, every year thousands of other people get their tattoos removed! It’s an ironic situation if you imagine each day so many people both getting and removing tattoos all over the body.

While the subject of getting a tattoo will be for another article on another day, in this article I do want to talk about 4 important things you should know about when it comes to removing them and get that tattoo off your body for good.

The first one is that it’s a painful experience. No matter if you opt for a method such as dermabrasion (also known as sanding, which should tell you something about how it feels!), excision, rejuvi cream injections, or laser treatments, the experience of having to remove your tattoo is not an altogether pleasant one. The good news is that tattoo removal clinics take pains to improve the discomfort either through numbing agents, cold air, or medication. But it still is going to hurt! (The only exception to this rule is using over the counter methods such as Wrecking Balm tattoo removal cream, but these methods are considered amateur and are not recommended anyway!)

The second important point to understand is that not all tattoos can be removed entirely, and no one technique can promise such a thing. This is true again for all techniques. Tattoo ink just doesn’t always respond to your current methods of removal. What this means is usually a tattoo can be removed entirely, but it’s possible that certain elements of the tattoo ink, particular tattoo ink colors such as green or red, might be impossible to remove entirely (short of excising the skin with the ink contained within it.)

The third critical point to realize is that removing tattoos takes time. If you’ve got a tattoo on your shoulders you’re hoping to have removed in time for a wedding next month, you will need to see a cosmetologist and have it concealed using tattoo concealer makeup, because no doctor is going to be able to have it removed for real in such a short amount of time. It generally takes 3-12 months to remove and recover fully from techniques such as rejuvi and laser tattoo removal.

Finally, our fourth point relates to the cost of such a procedure. Simply put, tattoo removal is expensive. It’s likely to cost anywhere from $500 for a small tattoo to many thousands of dollars for a large tattoo to be removed. Be prepared to deal with such an expense. The good news is that many laser treatment clinics allow customers to pay in installments and/or on a per treatment basis, making the cost significantly easier to swallow.

Despite the fact that tattoo removal is painful, costly, takes time, and doesn’t always work 100%, if you’ve got a tattoo you can’t stand looking at anymore, or a tattoo that is stopping you from moving up in the corporate world, it’s worth it to deal with these factors in order to get that tattoo off your body once and for all!
