Often speakers feature a smaller tweeter that is designed to produce the higher pitched notes, while the main speaker driver handles the mid range tones and sometimes bass. Not all speaker systems have a tweeter, but when one is present it is often a sign of a decent sound speaker.

Once you learn more about speakers, you may discover that what you’re really after is a complete sound experience. An arrangement that offers the full range of sound audio is a surround sound 5.1 speaker system. This sort of system features satellite speakers that are positioned both in front of you (front-right, front-left, directly in front) and behind you (back-left and back-right). Cheap surround sound speakers can even be found, although you should expect to pay a bit more than bargain-bin prices for a good set. The wonderful thing about a 5.1 system is that it offers you complete immersion in the environment of a movie audio track, with a realistic portrayal of sounds directly behind you. The advantage of a 5.1 system is that it will meet just about any need, from surround sound support in blockbuster movies to the latest video game, or if you simply want to listen to your favorite music tracks.
