Considering Buying A Set Of Jump Bikes?

The latest trend in the world of bikes – jump bikes, or dirt jump bikes, have emerged to meet the needs of a growing section of the population who don’t just want to cruise on their bicycle. They want to jump, perform stunts and seek thrills and excitement. Jump bikes have been designed with this in mind: solid enough to perform jumps and lighter than your average bike, allowing the rider to fly more freely through the air.

A cross between a mountain bike and a BMX, these tough little bikes need to be able to contend with hard falls and withstand a lot of abuse. They are similar in design to a mountain bike but generally the top tube of the frame slopes up towards the seat and the seat is at a lower height so that it doesn’t interfere with the jumping. They also usually have no rear suspension and are a little heavier than racing bikes. They need to be light enough to fly through the air, but strong enough not to buckle on landing.

Although there are a variety of bike styles out there and endless customisations that are possible, in general, these bikes have wheels that are between 24″ and 26″ and have a small gear set to enable fast acceleration. Rapid acceleration is essential for jump biking. High speeds have to be achieved in a short space of time to allow the bike to actual jump off the ground, so hunt for a good gear system that will enable this fast acceleration.

There are a few other factors to look for when choosing a jump bike. Despite being heavier than a mountain bike, it is best to look for one that is as light as possible, as this is what will allow you to jump through the air with ease. The best jump bikes, and the most expensive ones, are the lightest ones as they have been specifically designed with the lightest materials possible and without any extra parts that will add weight unnecessarily.

It is also advisable to look for a bike that uses brake discs on both the front and rear brakes of the bike, as these are more reliable in all weather conditions meaning that you can be confident that the bike will come to a halt even in the wet.

Jump biking is an exciting sport that looks set to grow and grow. Its popularity is no mystery – Why would you want to have your wheels on the ground when you could be flying through the air?
