Creative Uses For Your Leftover Carpet

So you’ve just finished carpeting your home and are left with a dozen feet of leftovers, what should you do with it?  First of all, don’t throw it away!  In this post I’ll show you how to make a few bucks off of it, as well as some creative uses for it in your home.

There is a big market for carpet remnant (aka leftover carpet) that you can capitalize on with what you have.  Most people will use it for carpeting stairs or a small room, but people buy it all of the time.  How do you sell it?  You can sell it back to your carpet store, which doesn’t always work.  Or you can post an ad on Craigslist, which is much more successful.  You’re going to have to measure how much you have, put a price on it, decide whether or not you’re willing to cut it up and sell it as pieces, and whether or not you’re able to deliver.  I like to put a ridiculous delivery price on ads like this so that if someone is that desperate I can make it well worth my time (think $150+ in-town delivery).

If you don’t feel comfortable selling it, there are lots of other things that you can do with it.  If you have kids, pets, and dirty shoes you can cut long pieces to serve as runners in high traffic areas.  The cool thing about this is that it looks a little tacky, you can easily pick the runner up and move it to the garage when you have company over, leaving brand new carpet beneath.  You can also save it to repair carpet in the future that the dog, kids, or whatever screw up.

I’ll say it again, don’t throw your carpet scraps away!  They are perfectly good and can even earn you some cash.  I know that it takes up space in the garage, but getting use out of it will make that extra space well worth it.
