Solar Lighting: Important Considerations
A few years ago solar lighting was still quite unaffordable because the prices were much higher compared to the alternatives. Low voltage lighting is still considered the most popular option for installing outdoor lighting lamps but solar lighting is gaining in popularity very fast. The reasons why you want to use solar lights instead of voltage lighting are primarily because of the easy installation and because you are able to save on your electricity bill. This is especially true if you have a large garden where you have to install multiple lamps.
The main difference between solar lights and voltage lighting is that the brightness solar lamps emit is not as much as voltage lighting. The brighter a solar lamp will be, the shorter time it will emit light because it can only charge a certain amount of energy that it gets from the sun. So if you want to install spotlights or small useful lights near your walkway than consider that bright solar led lights will only be that bright for a couple of hours, after that it will start to decrease. It is important to note that if you’re considering a solar lighting alternative, you might have to purchase additional products like a low voltage transformer.
For this reason they are used primarily on locations at your home exterior where bright lighting is not really necessary. They are excellent options for your walkway, driveway and even as patio lighting. They are maybe less useful for places you want to have well lit to increase your visionary.
Their are different kinds of outdoor solar lights available and it is important to consider this difference. There are lights that have an integrated solar cell on top of the lamp which makes the lamp truly wireless. Other lights often have a separate solar collector which is wired and have to be placed somewhere faced to the sun. Both ways have their pros and cons, integrated lamps always have to be faced to the sun and the designs might not be as attractive because of the integrated cell on top of the lamp. Separate solar collectors are often wired so you only have to place the collector faced to the sun which means you are more flexible in placing your lamps in your garden. The designs often look better because there is no solar cell attached to the lamp itself.
