Wedding Cake Supplies For A DIY Option

Weddings are a grand time for the whole family, not just the bride and groom.  And with the cost of a cake nowadays one of the nicest things you can do for a favorite niece or sister is make her a wedding  cake, saving her hundreds of dollars for her honey moon with her sweetheart.  Find out what she is looking for and roll up your sleeves, this will be a bumpy ride!

Finding the Right Stuff

Find out what the couple want, I recommend a good “Martha Stuart Weddings” book. Find out what floats the bride’s boat, because if she isn’t happy, then the other half won’t be either.  Chances are Mr. Bride won’t even care about the flavor as long as the Mrs. is happy.  He probably won’t even be at this little meeting; at best he’ll likely be unresponsive to the conversation.  Find a picture of your bride’s dream cake and, provided you are at that skill level, go for it.  Know what you are aiming for in terms of flavor, icing and look.

Wedding Cake Supplies

Which wedding cake supplies you will need depends entirely on what kind of cake the bride and groom (okay, the bride) likes.  White is traditional, but you can make anything the wedding party wants from red velvet to chocolate.    Basically you will need a cake stand of some kind, pillars and supports,  icing tips and tools, bags, cake pans, a cake leveler, and all of the cake ingredients for whichever flavor you are making, as well as the garnishes.  Look over the internet and shop for good deals on tiers and pretty pedestals.

Garnishes for Wedding Cakes

This is a very important factor in wedding cake supplies and design.  You can buy candied flowers to garnish the cake with, and that just makes the prettiest and simplest cake design. You can also consider fresh flowers like lilies, and roses.  They are usually easy to find at a florist’s shop and look great stuck on a cake and iced around.  I have seen wedding candles used, and provided they look like wedding candles and not birthday candles the look is amazing.  I have also seen sea shells (sterilized of course) arranged in beach motifs and they are spectacular if you have a little patience with them.  I especially like the fake starfishes you can eat; there is sure to be an uncle in the crowd fishing through plates eating them up like an octopus when no one is looking!
